I can usually handle my problems, how can therapy help?

Everyone faces difficult times in life, and even if you’ve managed many challenges on your own, seeking additional support is a sign of strength—not weakness. It takes true self-awareness to recognize when you could use a helping hand. By acknowledging where you are and choosing therapy, you’re taking an active step toward positive change. Therapy offers lasting benefits by equipping you with tools to manage triggers, shift unhelpful patterns, and overcome the obstacles you encounter on your journey.

What is therapy like?

Every therapy session is unique and tailored to your individual needs and goals. Typically, therapists will work with you to explore the main issues and concerns affecting your life. Sessions are commonly scheduled weekly and last about fifty minutes. Therapy can be short-term, focusing on specific challenges, or longer-term to address more complex issues or support ongoing personal growth.

Sometimes, you may be encouraged to engage in activities outside of sessions—like reading relevant materials or tracking certain behaviors—to help integrate what we discuss into your daily life. The more you actively participate both during and between sessions, the more effective therapy becomes.

People who seek therapy are often ready to take responsibility, foster self-awareness, and work toward meaningful change. Here’s what you can expect from our work together:

  • Practical strategies to create positive change

  • Compassion, respect, and understanding in a safe space

  • New perspectives to help recognize and shift negative patterns

  • Evidence-based techniques paired with clear, practical guidance

How will therapy help me?

Participating in therapy can offer many meaningful benefits. A therapist provides support, problem-solving tools, and effective coping strategies to help with a wide range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, relationship challenges, unresolved childhood experiences, grief, stress management, body image, and creative blocks. Many people also find counseling invaluable for personal growth, improving interpersonal relationships, navigating family or marriage issues, and handling everyday stresses.

Therapy offers a fresh perspective on difficult situations and helps guide you toward solutions. The results you gain depend largely on how actively you engage in the process and apply what you learn. Some common benefits include:

  • Gaining a deeper understanding of yourself, your goals, and your values

  • Developing skills to improve your relationships

  • Finding resolution to the issues that brought you to therapy

  • Learning new ways to manage stress and anxiety

  • Better regulating powerful emotions like anger, grief, and depression

  • Enhancing communication and listening abilities

  • Shifting old behaviors and creating healthier patterns

  • Discovering new problem-solving strategies for family or marital concerns

  • Building self-esteem and boosting confidence

Is therapy right for me?

Choosing to start therapy is a personal decision, and people come to counseling for many different reasons. Some seek support for long-standing challenges like anxiety, depression, or other mental health concerns. Others turn to therapy to navigate unexpected life changes such as divorce, career transitions, or loss. Working with a therapist offers a space to gain insight, find support, and develop new strategies for managing life’s difficulties. Therapy is a valuable resource for anyone ready to take ownership of their growth, deepen self-awareness, and make meaningful changes toward a more fulfilling life.

Why is therapy so expensive?

Therapy is an investment in your mental health and well-being. The cost reflects the years of education, training, and ongoing professional development I’ve completed to provide effective, evidence-based care tailored to your unique needs.

Additionally, choosing therapy in a private practice like mine often means you receive more personalized, flexible care tailored specifically to you. Because I’m not restricted by insurance company rules or limited session approvals, I can spend time focusing fully on your needs without administrative constraints.

This also means fewer delays in scheduling and more confidentiality around your treatment. While insurance-paneled providers can be a great option, private practice allows for a more direct and consistent therapeutic relationship.

Is medication a substitute for therapy?

Sometimes, the most effective treatment combines both medication and therapy. Working closely with your medical provider, you can determine the best plan tailored to your needs. While medication can help alleviate symptoms, therapy addresses the root causes of emotional and mental health challenges, as well as the behaviors that may limit your progress.

Together, an integrative approach supports lasting healing and improved overall well-being.
